July’s visit to Marbury was very successful and probably the most enjoyable at this venue.  Although no kingfishers showed themselves, newly fledged nuthatches and coal tits flocked around the feeding station, and willow warblers had their nest in a hollow tree trunk only a few yards away.  There were plenty of the more common birds amongst the bushes.  On the mere itself, a family of great crested grebe kept us entertained;  the two chicks could not decide which was more fun - a ride on mum’s back or a carefully guarded swim.  A swan family, with 7 cygnets, led by the cob and with the pen as rearguard, crossed the lake in front of us in perfect single file.  A pair of heron glided down to the reeds and lily pads, disturbing the coots and moorhens.  Teal, mallards and tufted ducks swam about freely.  As we were leaving , a rare sight - two black and white swans flew low over our heads.

There is also a Bat Night at Ness Gardens 7-9 p.m. Including a meal.  Booking essential (0151 353 0123).  Please book yourselves if you wish to attend.
