From member Ruth Davenport:

I've just attended a 10 week course on wine, run at Sir John Deane's College in Northwich. The tutor was John Lewis, who lives in Nantwich and works during the day, so is only available in the evenings.

His fee is £20/hour - a session would be two hours.

I paid £65 for 10 sessions, plus £6/session to cover the wine, - for 8 weeks by which time we'd put enough in the kitty.  Each session one takes at least 4 wine glasses.  One week we tasted 8 different wines - only a thimble full, but enough to savour the differences.

He could run one of three courses.

1.  1 session, introducing how to look at wine, then covering Cava and Champagne

2.  5 sessions - the wines of France

3. 10 sessions, France and the rest of the world

If enough members were interested - I would think 12 is an ideal number - we could calculate a charge that would cover his fee and possibly the cost of hiring a venue.

Problems I foresee are evening attendance, where to hold the sessions and I understand that the cost might be a bit high. I would be pleased to hear from other interested members.
