MUSIC APPRECIATION

This group meets at the Quaker Meeting House at 10.00 am on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of the month. Members take it in turn to play recordings for the enjoyment of the group.

The Musical Journeys group began in July 2005 and was one of the first groups in the newly-formed Cestrian U3A.  The philosophy of the members of the group, in keeping with the aims and objectives of U3A that we help ourselves, is that we have each been on musical journeys and therefore have a wealth of music to share with others.

This has led to our sharing a wide range of music, from programmes on a single composer, eg Kodály, Ravel and Mozart; to the music of a country or area, eg China, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, the Danube, Britain, France, Argentina; to particular genres of music, eg Jazz, Country and Western, Celtic; to themed programmes eg the Seasons, Round the Clock and Pick-and-Mix.  There is no pressure on members to present a full programme of music and for those who maybe have a small music collection we have an occasional session when members each bring along a favourite work to share with the group.
