Music Group

Eleven members enjoyed music associated with the letter "S".   We opened with two piano pieces by Eric Satie, Gymnopedia No. 1 and Gymnossien No. 4.  This was followed by an excerpt from Schubert's Unfinished Symphony.  Schubert again with the andantino from Schubert's Trout Quintet.   Next was Finlandia by Sibelius, followed by Khachaturian's Sabre Dance.   Still with Russian Composers we listened to the finale from Shostakovich's fifth symphony, followed by the English composer, Gerald Finzi's Severn Rhapsody.   Traditional Jazz followed with the Clarinettist Monty Sunshine playing 'Just a Closer Walk with Thee'.   Back to classical music with the finale of Saint-Saen's Organ symphony and Schubert's lieder 'Nachtstuck' sung by Heinrich Schlusnus.   Back to the piano with Robert Schuman's Childhood scenes.   We finished with Monty Sunshine playing 'When you and I were young Maggie'.



The next meeting will be on Wednesday 14 March at 10 a,m, at QMH when the subject will be "Yarns."
